We've all experienced it...that inescapable feeling of being back in some place and time from our past. It often comes straight out of the blue. A touch, a taste, a smell...a song...and immediately we're thrust back in time. Often it's inescapable and against our will to resist. Sometimes it's a good memory, sometimes a painful one...and sometimes one you thought had been put long behind you. Whatever the cause or memory brought to mind, it's always powerful.
It was the strangest thing. The day had already been full of twists and turns that had me a bit off balance. Then two songs came on the radio within a few minutes of each other. They were songs that you wouldn't expect to hear on the same station...yet there they were. Suddenly I was back in time, but it felt like yesterday. Every texture, touch and smile were brought to mind...things I thought long behind me. A couch in a softly lit room...a lacy teddy...shared earphones...easy smiles and familiar heat that was always both uniquely special and natural. Amazing how merely hearing a couple of songs by Clarence Carter (Strokin') and Cross Canadian Ragweed (Boys From Oklahoma) played in the same few minute time span can put you back in another place. Perhaps it was just a temporary fallback to familiar things in a day full of disturbing news. Perhaps not...in the end it really doesn't matter. Other than bringing a nostalgic smile to my face, it ultimately changes nothing, nor should it.
Strokin'
~Let me ask you something
How long has it been since you made love?...
Huh! Did you make love yesterday?
Did you make love last week?
Did you make love last year?
Or maybe it might be that you're planning on making love tonight
Well just remember, when you start making love
You make it hard, long, soft, short and be strokin'
I be strokin' I stroke it to the east and I stroke it to the west
I stroke it to the woman that I love the best~
